Governor Hochul Declares it is Her "Solemn Responsibility" to Replace Former Rep George Santos
Apparently, the governor didn't get the memo that a special election is required in House vacancies.
As we all know, George Santos has been ousted from the House of Representatives. In a clear attempt at a power grab, Governor Hochul of New York believes it is her “solemn responsibility” to fill the position of the vacant seat. She even went so far as to post this foolish idea on X (Twitter).
I am prepared to undertake the solemn responsibility of filling the vacancy in New York’s 3rd District. The people of Long Island deserve nothing less.
Kathy Hochul
What the people of Long Island deserve is the legal remedy of a special election to replace Santos. The only responsibility Hochul needs to undertake in this matter, based on federal law, is to announce a special election date within 10 days after the vacancy. And judging from the responses to her tweet, a red faced Hochul had to come out and attempt to save face a couple hours later by claiming that she will announce an election date soon.
As required by law, I will announce the date for a special election in the third district within the next ten days. I take this responsibility seriously and am committed to ensuring there will be a member of Congress who can serve Nassau and Queens Counties.
How is it that a Governor within the United States does not know what the federal laws regarding the replacement for a vacant House seat? Here’s what I think about this “solemn responsibility” crap. Hochul got really excited when the House voted to oust Santos and decided to gloat a bit, and in typical leftist fashion, she took a shot at gerrymandering in favor of the demonrat party as well. And why should anyone be surprised? The left will stop at nothing to gain and retain power, even going to the extreme of stealing elections.
This whole debacle is a clear sign of Hochul’s thirst for more and more power.
