The True Goal of the Electric Car
The ability to move about freely is really what the left is attempting to destroy.
My current car gets about 35mpg highway. Averages a little less than 30mpg and a full tank of gas gets me about 300 miles. It is probably above average for a non-hybrid vehicle and I have been pretty happy with it, until the price of gas went through the stratosphere! Now, I just want to park my car in the driveway and stare at it. My driving days are now meticulously planned to the T and I try not to deviate from it if I don’t have to.
According to the political elites, the only option at this point is to buy an electric vehicle. Now, I’m the kind of guy who has never paid more than $25-30K for a new car, because I don’t care about looks or status. Buying a car is a bad financial deal to begin with, and at an average price of around $55k for a new electric car, that bad deal just got really bad. You still lose about 1/3 of the equity when you drive the car off the lot to take it home. But now, you have a more expensive car that delivers about 100 miles on a full charge, and that is precisely why the left-wing politicians want you to scrap the gas burner! They will tell you it’s about saving the planet or protecting the environment, but it is really about the freedom of movement! If it was really about the environment, they would almost certainly have to be concerned about the power grid charging all those new electric vehicles. I would imagine they may have to fire up some of those coal burning power plants to cover the massive, new demand for electricity. So much for saving the planet.
One of our greatest freedoms is our ability to move about the country freely, in gas burning vehicles. Since the invention of the automobile, we have had the freedom to go where we want, when we want. Most of us take this freedom for granted, because it is something we have become accustomed to. But now, with the shutdown of the Keystone Pipeline and the lefts deliberate move away from petroleum independence, this very freedom that the US citizen has enjoyed for well over 100 years is being threatened! And it doesn’t just affect us, it affects people all over the planet.
So when you’re driving this year to your vacation spot or going to visit family in another state (assuming you can still afford the gas), think long and hard about what I have written here, and enjoy this freedom while it lasts.
