When is the Alcohol Industry Going to Be Held Accountable Like Big Tobacco Was in the 1990s?
A public service announcement from DamnStraight! Media. Alcohol has got to be the most dangerous drug on the planet. It is legal in most cases, and readily available at retail stores everywhere.
One thing cigarettes have never done is cause fatal car accidents. We all know tobacco use can cause cancer, heart disease, lung disease and other deadly diseases, but it never was a cause for horrific car accidents, divorce, domestic violence, rape or even murder. Alcohol, on the other hand has a very long rap sheet that includes everything I listed here as well as cirrhosis of the liver and a whole host of other horrible illnesses. Worst of all, it is highly addictive in many cases. For those who find themselves in its grasp, it is nearly impossible to get away from.
So why has the alcohol industry gotten a pass? Should they not be held responsible like the tobacco industry. Big pharma was sued for opioid addiction and the damage it has caused to the lives of many people. But so far, alcohol has been basically ignored with the exception of warning label changes over the years. As a matter of fact, it is ignored to the point where the Capitol building in Washington DC has its very own liquor store, which was approved by Nancy Pelosi, during the baby formula crisis.
You can ask almost anyone about alcoholism in their families, and they will tell you that they either have a family member who has a drinking problem, a friend or they are addicted themselves, making alcoholism one of the most prevalent problems in modern society.
Alcoholism had affected my life as a teenager, causing me to leave my father’s house at the tender age of 16. It is, once again affecting me as an adult. For the record, I am not an alcoholic…I have not had a drink in 7 years because I wanted to set an example for someone else. Not a day goes by where I don’t thank God I am not addicted to alcohol, as I certainly drank enough of it over the years. Because of the damage it has done to my life and that of my family members, I will never have another drink as long as I live. I refuse to spend money on a drug that has ruined my life in many ways.
I believe it is time for that industry to pay up for the damage it has done to society. Think long and hard about the millions upon millions of people this drug has affected…lives lost or destroyed while the industry makes billions of dollars on the misfortunes of other.
Tobacco is poison and they were sued, opioids are poison, and they were sued, and alcohol is poison…what are we waiting for? None of the chemicals related to these drugs belong in any bloodstream.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTSA), roughly 37 people die in the US every day, due to drunk driving. In 2022, over 13,500 people died due to drunk driving. We all know the dangers of driving impaired, but it continues on a regular basis, with many of those repeat offenders being severely addicted to alcohol.
Those of us who are not addicted to such things can never know the feeling of needing something so badly that you would be willing to put family members in danger, as well as other people who are out on the road. This addiction puts marriages, family relationships and ultimately, the life of the addicted person at extreme risk.
Alcohol is a multi-billion-dollar industry that thrives on sales volume at the expense of millions of people. Entire families have been decimated by addiction to alcohol.
