Whoopi Goldberg Appears to be Suffering from Munchausen Syndrome
The stunt she pulled when she slandered Holtermann's Bakery in New York City was a clear case of lying to seek sympathy from her entire audience and the country.
Munchausen syndrome (also known as factitious disorder imposed on self) is a mental health disorder where you falsify, exaggerate, or induce physical, emotional or cognitive disorders.
People with factitious disorders act this way because of an inner need to be seen as ill or injured, not to achieve a concrete benefit, such as getting medications or financial gain. This is distinguishable from malingering which is where someone exaggerates or fakes an illness to, for example, get out of work.

What is it that these people seek when they pull a stunt like this? Their payoff is not in the form of financial gain or even free pastries from Holtermann’s Bakery. It is something far less expensive than money or pastries…it’s called sympathy. Whoopi Goldberg played false victim because she wanted your sympathy, and she did it at the potential expense of the Bakery’s reputation, which could cause them severe financial consequences.
